A big lobster pound and take-out place with views of Penobscot Bay

This place keeps thousands of lobsters in its tanks-and as many as 500 people can find a place to sit and eat them, either upstairs or outside at a picnic table. Good weather is everything, because there is no heat in the big inside dining room; after the warm weather goes, the place is open for takeout only.

But when the weather is warm, this is one of the area's best spots for a lobster dinner. The picnic tables along the river have a wide-open view of downtown Belfast across the water, and the boat traffic on Passagassawakeag River.

You can always buy lobsters, clams, mussels, and crabs here, either fresh or cooked to go. An 8-ounce cup of lobster stew is $6.50, a lobster roll is $12.95, and a crab roll costs $9.95.

Sautéed lobster can be enjoyed for $20.95 (varies with the market price), served with potato salad, coleslaw, and chips; or a lobster salad for the same price has the same trimmings. Oysters on the half shell are some times offered. In 2006 the Shore Dinner, with a 1½-pound lobster, steamers, a cup of clam chowder or lobster stew, corn or coleslaw, chips, and melted butter cost $28.95.
