Fine fresh seafood prepared with care(no trans fats here) and pizzazz; desserts by Mom
This respected establishment makes a variety of items to eat on the wharf or indoors, where there are seats for about 28 not including the bar, or for takeout.
The local draggers-"the second largest dragger fleet north of Gloucester"-bring owner Scott Yakovenko frequent supplies of gray sole, halibut, and haddock. He said monkfish is great sautéed with a fresh tomato sauce, and good also deep fried and served with a chipotle-lime aioli ($6.50).
Bouillabaisse ($21) is a typical special.
Crab and lobster rolls, and whole steamed lobster, are a favorites among summer visitors.
Come here for the healthy fried seafood. Yakovenko said he does all his frying with peanut oil; "Twice the price, and you're worth it," his motto goes. That makes the fried oysters doubly delectable, with a ginger shallot sauce ($6 for an appetizer; $14.50 in a basket with coleslaw and fries). For lighter fare, at least according to the menu, try the Port Clyde Poor Boy ($9), fried oysters with house tartar sauce in a roll.
Clams and mussels over linguine, with garlic, white wine, tomato, and pecorino Romano is $15.50. Locally grown, hormone-free grilled strip steak ($19) and a summer vegetable plate with a tofu cutlet ($11.50) take care of everybody else.
"Desserts are by Mom; how often can you say that?" Her name is Sandy Yakovenko. She makes, among many things, gingerbread, served with vanilla ice cream, and blueberry pie with an all-butter crust. Herb tea and espresso are brewed here too.
