A beautiful setting and terrific professional cooking create lovely dinners.
Oysters Bingo ($14), with garlic, spinach, Parmesan and cream is one of the best baked oyster dishes I've had, the spoonful of cream light and rich and the rest of the flavors delicate and not overwhelming. From spaghetti pomodoro ($17) for a simple craving to the lamb three ways ($25) that includes Merguez sausage, braised lamb sirloin, and a grilled chop, Pier 77 has a 2008 menu that would make anyone's mouth water. Seafood Stew with clams, mussels, shrimp, and fresh fish is flavored with saffron and tomato; fried clams is accompanied by house remoulade.
If you want to be right next to the windows, a reservation is probably necessary; but water views are possible from most tables.
Chef Peter Morency, 1973 Culinary Institute of America graduate, also presides over a lunch item called Pete's Pulled Pig, a North Carolina barbecue sandwich made with tender pulled pork ($8.50), fish-and-chips ($14), and seafood stew ($16).
With myrtle topiaries on the dark wood tables and a few Victorian pieces upstairs, plus an informal bar called the Ramp downstairs, where you can dine simply at night or enjoy lunch amid sports memorabilia, this spot at the end of Pier Road is ready to nourish all its visitors.
