What are your favorite spots for lobster?

I must apologize for posting so little recently, but for the past few weeks and for the foreseeable future I have locked myself in a room in order to turn out gold from straw -- and without Rumplestilskin. I am working on a new guidebook to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island to be published May 2009.

Meanwhile, I invite visitors to this Web site to add their own favorite spots for lobster. Monica Langley, quoted below, had a Maine visit devoted to the iconic crustacean and describes her experiences in detail. I like to eat soft-shelled lobsters, unlike Monica, but that's another debate for another day. Another reader wrote to say that the Lobster Shack at Two Lights is over-rated. But for a steamed lobster at a picnic table with a view, it remains a Maine classic.

My best encounter with a lobster roll was at Pemaquid Fishermen's Co-op's Harbor View Restaurant, when I ate an enormous one and had a fabulous view of the harbor to boot. It's rare to find a lobster roll with that much lobster meat; more often the toasted hot dog roll is filled with 2 or 3 ounces of the stuff, not six ounces or so.

Anyone who cares to write in with reasonable opinions will see them posted here, with many thanks.

From Bob Rossi, who writes about wine on this site at Mainely Wine News, referring to himself and his wife Ann: "Our favorite, from our limited experience, is Chauncey Creek [in Kittery].  The setting is fabulous, and not only can you bring your own wine and glasses, but also any food that they don't serve; which means there are loads of appetizers you can bring.  When we went last year everyone got lobster except me; I decided to try the lobster roll.  It was a disappointment; but everyone's lobster was great, as were the steamers.  Next time I'll stick to that."

From reader Monica Langley: "The baked stuffed lobster at Hurricane was a 2-lb. hard shelled lobster filled with delicious stuffing and topped with 3 perfectly seared jumbo scallops -- I was a happy girl!
The one at Mabel's Lobster Claw [in Kennebunkport] was full of scallops which was good, but the stuffing was a bit too heavy on Thanksgiving seasonings for my taste.
The one at Weathervane [Kittery] had tasty stuffing but was VERY soft shelled -- I probably wouldn't order lobster there again.  (I had hard shelled lobsters everywhere else I went last week while I was in Maine.)
The boiled lobster and the garlic bread at Barnacle Billy's in Ogunquit were great.
The lobster pie at The Maine Diner was good, but I'll stick to baked stuffed lobsters.  Fresh cooked lobster is better than cooked lobster meat that is topped with stuffing and baked.
The baked stuffed haddock at The Landing in Kennebunkport was great."

Erin, the author of the Blog, TypeADiversions, considered lobster rolls earlier this summer and received some comments about other good spots for a lobster roll here.
